Current Product List

MY NEW FAVORITE SHAMPOO
KeraCare (Sulfate Free) Hydrating Detangling Shampoo. It's a new formula and I L-O-V-E this stuff! It makes my hair so soft, I’m tempted to try detangling with this shampoo! I almost always used Avlon/KeraCare products while I was still into relaxers. I bought it because it was in a new gold bottle (not the old white bottle). It’s been sitting on the shelf for about a month, I never used it on my hair b/c I found CurlyNikki before it was time for a wash, and I just assumed it had sulfates. I never read the label until yesterday and silly me, never noticed that it said SULFATE FREE right next to the name of the shampoo! It’s also PARABEN FREE!
BTW, I bought it from Sally’s (need a professional card to purchase it) but you can purchase it online at http://www.avlon.com/KeraCare/shampoos.asp?category=2&cartid=

I’ve also tried(but not yet a fan of):
-Giovanni Tea Tree
-Giovanni 50/50
-Wen Cleansing Conditioner

Conditioner:
I don’t have a favorite yet, b/c I haven’t used anything more than once:
-Aubrey Organics White Tea Camelia – this is the last condish that I used, did not sit under the dryer, only left it in for 5 minutes. After I rinsed, my hair was soooo soft while styling!
Other conditioners that I’ve used only once (As of now, I like them equally):
-Herbal Essences Hello Hydration
-Aussie Moist
-Silk Elements MegaSilk with Olive Oil
-Say Yes To  Carrots

DT:
Aubrey Organics Honey Suckle Rose- It’s okay, no wow factor yet…
KeraCare 5 n 1 Reconstructor -  All time favorite for relaxed hair (not the greatest for my transitioning hair L )

Now on to product that”s I purchased but have yet to try:
Jessicurl Weekly Deep Conditioning Treatment
DevaCurl Heaven in Hair
KCCC
KCKT

My Journey To Natural Hair...Transitioning...Month 6

Okay…so I was in Target looking for hair products to make my flat-ironed hairstyle look great, and a woman with beautiful natural hair was on the same aisle as I was, and she was having trouble finding some products. I heard her question the location of the product and recognized the brands (Giovanni and Say Yes To Cucumbers) and told her that the organic products were near the beauty section (I was already a product junkie, and a Target addict) I lead her to the products that she was searching for. I then told her that for 6 months I had been "transitioning" (which, now I know that I was going about this completely wrong, I was blow drying and flat-ironing every week/2 weeks and not taking care of my hair at all, and definitely not moisturizing!!) Anyway, we had a 20 minute conversation and she told me she went to this website named CurlyNikki.com and read about the products that "CurlyNikki" used. When she showed me her list, I asked her if I could take a picture of it with my phone. Luckily, she said yes then we soon parted ways. That day, I bought as many of the products on the list that I could find in Target (can we say Product Junkie!?!?) Since that day two weeks ago, I’ve been on a healthy natural hair mission!

Needless to say, this woman (Nettie) and CurlyNikki.com has changed my life forever. I am eternally grateful to all the beautiful women that have shared their experiences with me, whether it was via personal convo or cyberspace. I have learned so much in so little time, and I have soooooo much more to learn! Sometimes I can’t sleep because I’m so anxious about co-washing my hair the next day! LOL!!!

Over the past 6 months, I had spoken to my mother a couple of times about going natural (not really sure if I was serious), and she was happy about it because she said I had curly hair before my first relaxer at age 12 (I guess I believe her, I do remember her using activator gel in my hair so that my “curls” were moisturized). My mom said she was interested to see my natural texture as an adult. I had initially told myself and my family that I would transition until my natural hair had grown at least to my shoulders since my hair had always between APL and BSL. Since I have more information now than I had in the past 5 months, I think that I am ready to get this show on the road, the road to healthy and happy hair, that is!!!

After reading comments from many forums, and also tons of blogs, and viewing hundreds of Fotki albums, I am thinking more and more about getting the BC really soon. I am becoming very anxious. I have never used the computer/internet this much in my life as I have in the past month or so. I literally get MAYBE 4 hours of sleep because I cannot stop reading articles about natural hair, lol!

Tonight, I began to make my own concoctions of oil mixtures for my hair and skin. For my hair, I combined equal parts of EVOO, Rosemary Oil, Jojoba Oil, Vitamin E Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, water and a few drops of Orange oil into a spray bottle. I’ll let you know by the end of the week how that turns out…

For my skin, I’ve combined 1 tbsp castor oil, 3 tbsp EVOO, 1 tbsp Vitamin E Oil, and 1 tbsp Jojoba oil. I’ve heard these oils are really good for the skin.

I hope I haven’t used too many oils mixed together, but I just added the oils that I saw in the ingredients of one of Giovonni’s leave in conditioners, LOL! I hope it works for me! Wish me luck!
